Spotlight on Belly Dancing

The music and performance of belly dance is common throughout the Eastern Mediterranean, Asia Minor, the Middle East and North Africa. This recording of belly dance music consists of two complete belly dance routines. Each routine is a medley of music in different time measures. The music is performed by the John Vartan Ensemble. Vartan, a professor of music at Kean University in New Jersey, is an accomplished musician in a variety of stringed and wood wind instruments. He specializes in Armenian folkloric music. This is his only performance for Monitor Records.
