Ras Tafari Youth Group (King So High)
This 1953 recording was made in West Kingston by George Eaton Simpson. The Ras Tafari Youth Group heard here comprised seven Rastafarian men and women, all under twenty-five, singing "King So High" in reference to Haile Selassie I (1892-1975), who ruled Ethiopia as the "King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, and Elect of God." The chorus is accompanied by a "rhumba box" (an upright marimba) and rattle.
