Businessman/record producer George Khoury began recording Cajun musicians in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1949. Among his roster of musicians were Nathan Abshire (“Crying Pinegrove Blues”), Harry Choates (“Jolie Blon’s Gone”), Lawrence Walker (“Boscoe Stomp”), and Elise Deshotel and his band with a young Dewey Balfa making his first recordings on vocals and fiddle (“La Valse de Bon Baurche”). This collection of recordings from the early 1950s was issued on Arhoolie Records in 1994.
