Jean Bosco Mwenda
"Masanga" is guitarist Mwenda Jean Basco's most recognized piece. It caught the attention of the world in 1952, when he won the Osborn Award for "best African music of the year" and helped put Mwenda's Congolese Katanga guitar style on the map. This was the very first song that Mwenda recorded with Hugh Tracey and he plays the guitar without the typical rhythmic accompaniment of a struck-bottle.
