Songs and dances of the Xhosa-speaking people of South Africa

In 1957 Hugh Tracey, founder of the International Library of African Music, recorded these songs from the Thembu in 1957 in various districts of Cape Province, South Africa. Songs sung at festive occasions, a meeting of herbalists and a topical song give an idea of the varied ways the Thembu use song.
