"Jhedar" is a women’s song sung at weddings during the departure of the bride from her natal home. "Jhedar" is the name of the girl who is the subject of the song, her eyes welling up with tears as she leaves her home, her parents and family, and all that is familiar and beloved. The song describes her mother, father and uncle talking to her, their beloved and beautiful Jhedar, advising her on her future life in her husband's home.

The opening duha is about weddings that happen in every home and praises the sweet dialect of the people of Jaisalmer, "as precious as diamonds in a mine."
