Nagar Nanda
"Nagar nanda" is a bhajan in Rag Kalyan. Sung by the Manganiars for their Rajput patrons, this devotional Krishna song is attributed to Surdas, the famous saint poet of the Bhakti tradition.
The opening duha glorifies Rag Kalyan, calling it the greatest and the most respected of all the Rags. The bhajan is in praise of Krishna and, as is the custom of the Bhakti tradition, describes him from the perspective of a lover who is besotted with his every feature. The lover sings of Krishna's crown, his dark visage, comparing him to the moon among the stars, who are the gopis.
