Fast Folk Musical Magazine (February 1988, Vol. 8, No. 10): Lost in the Works 3

Released in February 1998, this was the final issue of Fast Folk Musical Magazine. Begun in 1982 as The Coop/Fast Folk Musical Magazine, the multimedia publication was dedicated to releasing recorded collections of contemporary folk songs. In this final collection, the magazine offers 20 songs that had become overlooked, backlogged, or otherwise “lost in the works.” This was the third volume in the series. This session is opened by Brian Rose, who appeared on the first Fast Folk recording in 1982. Other Fast Folk veterans included in this session are Rod McDonald (“The Idea of a Flame”), Richard Meyer and Jack Hardy (“The Workingman’s Waltz”), John Gorka (“Against Hats”), Richard Shindell (“On the Sea of Fleur de Lise”), and Nikki Matheson with Lisa Gutkin on violin (“Winds of Sorrow”). The recording closes with Eric Frandsen, who also appeared on the first issue, singing “Scary Christmas” to the tune “Wish Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
