Audio
Kachancha
These maza dances performed by Lunda-speaking men and women from Kasai Province, Democratic Republic of Congo are played by five men. They are using three xylophones of different pitches called dujimba devasa, dujimba dwapakadie, and dujimba dwa makuma, which play in interlocking patterns. A mutumba (slit drum), and a nguma (cylindrical drum) help keep the rhythms flowing together and a single voice is heard singing.
