The Downtown Story: The Department Store: The Super Market

Helen Gene Purdy
The Downtown Story: The Department Store: The Super Market On this 1959 concept album for children, performer Helen Gene Purdy presents two stories in word and song. The first is about a day when a Little Girl and her mother go on a shopping trip to a department store (“Downtown”). On her journey, the Little Girl encounters revolving doors into stores and rides the escalator, elevator, and a bus. In the second story, a Little Boy goes to the supermarket with his mother to buy groceries. Included in the liner notes are the texts of the stories, and musical notation and lyrics for the songs.
