Pete Seeger’s 100th birthday is this week, and it’s time to celebrate! We’re asking Seeger fans, artists, activists, folkies, musicians, enthusiasts, and everyone in between to join Smithsonian Folkways in the centennial festivities by participating in our Spirit of Seeger digital hootenanny.

Here's how:

1. Between May 3-5, film yourself (and/or your friends!) playing a cover of one of your favorite Pete Seeger tunes. There are hundreds to choose from, including traditional tunes, as well as Pete originals.

2. Upload your video to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and tag Smithsonian Folkways. Also, make sure you use the hashtag #SpiritofSeeger so we can find your video.

3. We'll share your video on our social media channels, creating a weekend-long party, made up entirely of Seeger fans playing Seeger tunes! Email spiritofseeger@si.edu with any questions.

There’s no better way to commemorate Pete’s life and legacy than coming together as a community and raising our voices in song. We even made our own #SpiritofSeeger cover video on the roof of Folkways HQ! We’re excited to celebrate with you, whether you’re listening to recordings from Pete Seeger: The Smithsonian Folkways Collection, or joining us on social media for the digital hoot.
