A hymn for the Festival of Purîm ("Feast of Lots"), which commemorates the saving of the Persian Jews from extermination, as related in the bible, in the Book of Esther. The festival is a happy one, with many of the songs in similar mood. The present song, in contrast, deals with the darker, more sombre aspect of the festival.
