This plena corrida (running plena), as Tito Matos calls the fast plenas to differentiate them from the plenas lamento (lament plenas) which are slower, was composed by Juan "Llonsi" Martínez, the renowned director of the plena group Los Sapos del Caño. It illustrates well the classic, simple method of creating a plena: a prescribed chorus, or refrain, sets the theme; it is repeated between verses composed or improvised by the singers. Between verses and refrains, the percussionists take the opportunity to show their skill, as in this example Tito Matos shines with his requinto solo. The percussion arrangement is a collaboration between Tito and Juan "Llonsi" Martínez.
