200 Years of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ from Smithsonian Folkways
Flag Day (June 14) commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes banner as the flag of the United States. This year marks the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key’s poem to the flag, which became ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’ To celebrate both occasions, Smithsonian Folkways has compiled a playlist of American songs rooted in history—the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, and even Watergate. Together they represent the diversity of American culture.
