Not bad for a man who couldn't even sign his name.” —Cajun musician Marc Savoy (liner notes) Amédé Ardoin (1898-1942) was a Creole musician who was known for his high singing voice and virtuosity on the Cajun accordion. Louisiana music scholars credit him with laying the groundwork for the eventual creation of zydeco music. Ardoin was a lively, inventive accordionist who could keep a crowd dancing even while playing alone. One of the first Creole musicians to be recorded, Ardoin participated in only four recording sessions during his life; three of them are included in this collection.
