Coimbra Orfeon of Portugal

The 80-voice Coimbra Orfeon (Chorus) of Portugal showcase their musical skills across a variety of genres. On their first American recording, they perform accompanied and a cappella pieces, singing in Portuguese, Latin, and English. Performances include a tender, heartfelt fado (“Fado Da Mentira”) with guitar accompaniment, close vocal harmonies on “Rapsodia Luso-Brazileira” (“Brazilian Rhapsody”), and an up-tempo performance of Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” Liner notes include a description of student life and traditions at the University of Coimbra.
