The jogi katha performers are called kinnari jogis taking their name from the stick zither kinnari. The performance usually consists of four males who form a small ensemble. The kathe - stories, are interspersed with songs which are relevant to the story. A famous song written by Shishunala Sharif - a nineteenth century Kannada saint poet. " Don’t cry sister, don’t cry"
