Lula Wiles Returns with Two New Songs on 'It's Cool'

Fresh off the release of What Will We Do at the top of this year, Lula Wiles has returned with a brand new single It’s Cool, which explores the complexities of dating in the digital age. The trio trains its incisive, trenchant wit on the new ways we experience age-old feelings of disappointment, desire, and heartache.

The A-side “It’s Cool (We’re Cool, Everything’s Cool)” is a rollicking, electric-guitar led anthem about the exasperating back-and-forth of loving at a distance, mediated by screens and hesitancy. The languid, lovelorn B-side, “You Only Want Me When You Need Me,” is a late-night, country-tinged lament of conditional love that punctures the pretensions of ambivalent men with the band’s uniquely self-aware humor.

“It’s Cool (We're Cool, Everything's Cool)," which premiered on PAPER Magazine “is a perfect vintage-modern mashup, which recalls 2 AM "I need you" texts, while weaving in classic country twang and a powerful three-part harmony.” When PAPER asked about the writing process, Lula Wiles explained, “We're writing from our own experiences, our own frustrations, and responding to the things we observe around us,” making their songs so timely and relatable.

What Will We Do garnered extensive critical praise, with NPR stating, “Lula Wiles flips notions about American folk on its head.” Paste Magazine concurred, calling the group “provocateurs of the best kind, rabble rousers with the purest intentions.”

With It’s Cool, Lula Wiles further establishes themselves as Americana’s wildcard, unafraid of exploring knotty topics and turning convention on its head. Listen to the two new songs here and pre-order the 7" of the single, due out on 3/6/2020.
