Mississippi Delta Blues Jam In Memphis, Vol. 1
Various Artists

Arhoolie founder Chris Strachwitz recorded a number of traditional Mississippi Delta blues musicians during the 1969 Memphis Blues Festival. Volume 1 features the legendary Fred McDowell, Furry Lewis, Memphis Piano Red, the guitar duo of R. L. Watson and Josiah Jones (two deaf mute musicians), and the Como Drum Band. The recordings capture the unpolished country blues that is the hallmark of the Mississippi Delta. The liner notes were written by journalist and record producer Pete Welding.
