New Album From Mariachi Los Camperos Out August 23

Mariachi Los Camperos has announced the upcoming release of their new album De Ayer para Siempre (From Yesterday to Forever), out August 23rd! The GRAMMY-award winning ensemble animates traditional Mexican music with supreme artistry, honoring mariachi's storied history and heritage by featuring classic standards in new arrangements, as well as pushing the form forward with fresh compositions and delightful medleys. The Los Angeles based group, founded in 1961 by NEA Heritage Fellow Natividad "Nati" Cano, and currently fronted by bandleader Jesús “Chuy” Guzmán, has brought the art of mariachi to new audiences worldwide, acting as cultural ambassadors and finding new fans wherever they go.

Chuy knew from a young age that he would be mariachi musician, and at the age of 9 years old, said to himself, "You know, some day I will be a member of Mariachi Los Camperos." Now, he has been a member of the band for over 25 years, stepping into the role of musical director after the death of Nati Cano in 2014. Guzmán continues to promote the legacy and vision of Cano, saying, "to preserve, to rescue so many beautiful songs...as a tribute to Mexico, to its people, who are th eones who keep these beautiful songs alive." Because of their dedication to preservation and renewal, Mariachi Los Camperos is not only considered, as the L.A. Times puts it, "one of the top mariachi ensembles in the country," but also an integral piece in the shifting public perception of mariachi.
