Pre-Order Roll Columbia: Woody Guthrie’s 26 Northwest Songs and stream “Grand Coulee Powder Monkey”
On January 27th, 2017, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings will release Roll Columbia: Woody Guthrie’s 26 Northwest Songs, a two-disc album celebrating Woody Guthrie’s prolific period of songwriting in the Pacific Northwest when he was commissioned by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) in 1941. Now, 75 years later, contemporary musicians like Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Chris Funk (The Decemberists), Michael Hurley, and many others perform the 26 songs that Guthrie wrote over this fruitful month. Roll Columbia is the first album to include all of Guthrie’s BPA songs, including nine that have never been recorded.
The album is available for pre-order in both CD and digital download formats. Customers who purchase the pre-order will receive an instant download of “Grand Coulee Powder Monkey” performed by Scott McCaughey, Peter Buck, and Jon Neufeld.
Noisey is currently premiering the first single from the album, Scott McCaughey, Peter Buck, and Jon Neufeld’s “Grand Coulee Powder Monkey.”
