Folk Ballads of the English-Speaking World

Here, singer and collector Paul Clayton performs fifteen texts collected in The Viking Book of Folk Ballads, including historical ballads to songs about tabloid crime. Rather than reproducing previous traditional singers' performances exactly, Clayton himself enters the "folk process" by combining texts and melodies from different versions of each ballad.
