This Ashtapadi is sung in the Sopanam Sangeetam style as a Ragamalika, consisting of the ragas Panthuvarali, Shankarabharanam, Thodi, Kalyani, Suruti, Shahana and Ananda Bhairavi. It is set to Chempata thalam.The song describes Krishna at play with the gopis. The Gita Govinda is a dramatic poem written by the poet-saint Jaydeva in the 12th century, the verses of which are called Ashtapadi.
