Russian Poetry: Read in Russian by Larissa Gatova
Larissa Gatova
This compilation of Russian poetry is recited in dramatic fashion by Larissa Gatova, an actress at the Moscow Art Theater. Perhaps the best known poem is “The Bronze Horseman” by Alexander Pushkin, written about the iconic statue of Peter the Great on horseback, a symbol of St. Petersburg. In addition to works by Pushkin, the collection includes poems by Fyodor Tyutchev, Mikhail Lermontov, A.A. Fet, Nikolai Gogol, and Nikolai Nekrassov. The liner notes include the entire spoken text transcribed in Russian and English, and several articles about Gatova’s life and her impressive recitals of poetry, always performed from memory.
