In This Our Land: Songs About America

Tucson-based children’s music performer, teacher, librarian, and rancher Sarah Barchas celebrates the values of America on this 1980 recording. She dedicates the entire album to her father and offers individual dedications to various siblings who inspired the lyrics for several of the tracks. In addition, Barchas honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “whose dream and work for humanity brought all [American] peoples together” in the song “Our Black Brothers. In “This Is the United States,” she describes how all the states are unique, yet share a common bond. In the song “Don’t Let Others Think for You,” she reminds listeners of the importance of holding individual views. Liner notes include an introduction to the album and complete song lyrics.
