When the Sun Shines

Tom Glazer’s 1947 album When the Sun Shines was recorded for Young People’s Records, a subscription-based label which aimed to provide children with music that was simultaneously entertaining, educational, and interactive. These songs were designed to familiarize a young listener with basic concepts relating to the outdoors, and to encourage running, jumping, and dancing while the record plays. Between songs, Glazer speaks to the audience in his signature warm, conversational tone, guiding them through all the fun activities they can enjoy on a bright, sunny day.
