Tokari geet is a popular form of devotional songs sung by different sects in Assam. Essentially lyrical in character, these songs have mystical and philosophical association, usually dedicated to the Hindu god Krishna. The theme of these songs expound the meaning of the human body and eternal soul.This musical form is sung by men with a leader and chorus acompanied by a range of instruments; the 'tokari' or 'dotara' which is a string instrument, cymbals and khamak-frame drum, flute and harmonium.
