Joe Mullins - Sites of Ohio's Musical Legacy: Memorial Hall [Behind The Scenes Documentary]
Watch the first in a series of videos with Joe Mullins discussing the influential sites of the story behind ‘Industrial Strength Bluegrass: Southwestern Ohio’s Musical Legacy,’ released March 26th on Smithsonian Folkways. The post-World War II Appalachian migration led to a burgeoning downtown bar scene in Dayton, Ohio during the 1950s that inspired bluegrass for generations around the world. Here, Mullins stands in front of the historic Memorial Hall, wherein 1989 The Dayton Bluegrass Reunion took place with performances by Paul "Moon" Mullins, Larry Sparks, The Osborne Brothers, and more. Written in the foreword of the program for this all-star event, Dr. Neil V. Rosenberg coined music made in the Miami Valley of Ohio as “Industrial Strength Bluegrass.”
