Rapsodia Romina: The Barbu Lautaru Orchestra

Founded in 1949, Rapsodia Romina, the renowned Romanian folk ensemble, made its first tour of the USA in 1962, appearing initially at the Seattle World’s Fair. Accompanying the tour was the Barbu Lautaru Orchestra. Composed of violins, lutes, pan-pipes, and flutes, the orchestra presents a sampling of the distinctive folk and dance music of Romania. The liner notes provide a description of the group’s history and a brief history of folk music in Romania, followed by a track list and description of each song played on the recording.
