Billed as “La Reina del Bolero” (The Queen of Bolero) Consuelo (Chelo) Silva (1922–1988) was a pioneer of popular Mexican music. Chelo began her career in the late 1930s in Brownsville, Texas, eventually gaining fans on both sides of the American-Mexican border. Her sultry and emotive recordings imparted a certain grace to the whole notion of love gained, love lost, and love ruined. This collection of music is drawn from recordings on the IDEAL label made between 1958 and 1964.
