Shakespeare's Cleopatra: A Study in Moods

“Age cannot wither, nor custom stale, her infinite variety,” noted William Shakespeare about the ancient Egyptian queen Cleopatra. In this recording, American stage actress Claire Luce (1903–1989) presents the full range of Cleopatra’s complex character, rangings from provocative seductress to tragic victim, in scenes from the timeless play Antony and Cleopatra. Transcripts of the scenes heard on the album are included in the liner notes, followed by a biography of the performer.
