Invitation to Music

Based on his book Invitation to Music, composer Elie Seigmeister provides an overview of “the wide, varied, expressive” world of music. He guides the listener through fundamental concepts, such as chords, melody, rhythm, timbre, counterpoint, and compositional forms, illustrating his lessons with excerpts from Beethoven, Chopin, and Stravinsky, as well as examples from jazz and folk music. Liner notes include a full transcript of the recording and a score for each musical example.
