Fast Folk Musical Magazine (Vol. 8, No. 2) Live at the Bottom Line 1994

To note the beginning of their twentieth year as a music venue, the Bottom Line invited the Fast Folk Music Revue to perform. The result is 18 songs performed by 9 singers accompanied by a three-piece band. They sing songs about foreign places (“Cats in the Coliseum,” “The Viennese Drinking Song,” and “Dachau”), love (“Thin Ice,” “Wedding Song,” and “Sex and Consequences”), road rage (“Blow ‘em Away”), losing contact with a brother (“Rider on an Orphan Train”), the challenge of being dyslexic (“Dyslexia”)—and Dave Van Ronk, the “Mayor of MacDougal Street,” makes an appearance with “Loser.” The liner notes include an in-depth interview with Van Ronk discussing his guitar picking style, Reverend Gary Davis, playing in a jug band, and songwriting.
