Folksongs and Dances of the Netherlands
Various Artists

From the primitive calling of the midwinter horn to an old drinking song, this album explores traditional music from around the Netherlands, sung by ordinary folk. Many of the songs are associated with holidays such as Advent and Easter; others include a traditional bedtime tune that a mother typically sings to her child, a seaman’s song about Curaçao, and wedding dance music. The liner notes include a description of each song and English translations for most of the lyrics.
