Grenada Stories and Songs

Various Artists
Grenada Stories and Songs This field recording begins to document the tradition of spoken and sung storytelling in Grenada, a small island in the Caribbean. Full of humor, stories are told in English or English patois by a number of male orators and describe society (while reflecting African roots), often using metaphorical allusions to animals. Interspersed with the tales are calypso songs sung in French Creole or English patois.
