On the Hallelujah Line
On the Hallelujah Line is the second Folk-Legacy recording of Helen Schneyer, following her first 1974 release Ballads, Broadsides, and Hymns. In contrast to the sparse sound of Ballads, On the Hallalujah Line gives greater attention to Schneyer's skill as a pianist, alongside rich but tempered vocal harmonies from several contributors, including fellow Folk-Legacy artist Jonathan Eberhart and Schneyer's own daughter Riki. The album presents a selection of religious songs from the Anglo- and Afro-American traditions, carried by Schneyer's invigorating and inspired contralto.
