Jonathan Eberhart first established himself in Washington, D.C.'s folk scene while playing at the Unicorn, the city's premiere counterculture coffeehouse of the 1960's. Soon after, alongside the likes of fellow Folk-Legacy artists Helen Schneyer and Joe Hickerson, he helped found the Folklore Society of Greater Washington. On Life's Trolley Ride, Eberhart's devotion to folk music and songwriting is clear. The record offers a collection of traditional American folk songs, covers, and originals, including "Lament for a Red Planet", a song inspired by Eberhart's love of science and career as a science journalist. Eberhart sings a rich bass and plays guitar, and is joined throughout the record with vocal harmonies, mandolin, fiddle, and banjo.
