Switzerland: Schottisches, Ländler Waltzes, Polkas

This recording consists of folk dance music from the Swiss Alps known as Ländler music, which, according to the liner notes, is an “original, strong, and uninhibited music making.” Jost Ribary and Heiri Meier lead trios composed of clarinet, Schwyzer organ (a small, light accordion), and bass fiddle on eight tracks each. Although a vernacular music, Ländler is generally reserved for special occasions and festivities. Liner notes include track titles and background information on the genre.
