Klezmer Music: Early Yiddish Instrumental Music: The First Recordings 1908-1927

The term klezmer refers to those musicians who professionally performed the Jewish vernacular ("folk") instrumental repertory of Eastern and Central Europe. Klezmer later described the music itself—and then its “revitalization” in the United States. This collection is composed mostly of acoustic recordings made during the early 20th century and showcases the variety of musical styles and instruments as broad as its geographical range. Liner notes include a brief history of klezmer and the early bands that recorded the music.
