Trovadores de la Frontera
Los Pingüinos del Norte
Ruben Castillo Juarez was nicknamed “el Pingüino” (the Penguin) when he was eight years old. His band Los Pingüinos del Norte has been playing along the Rio Grande region of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico/Laredo, Texas, since the 1970s. The music in this collection features original compositions by Castillo Juarez and includes his corrido (ballad) about Juan Garcia (“El Corrido De Juan Garcia”), a little-known bandit who was shot by a posse of lawmen and gunmen hired by a local rancher.
