Ballads and Songs of Scotland
Norman Kennedy, an Aberdeenshire Scotsman transplanted to Vermont, first sang in the United States at the Newport Folk Festival on the invitation of Ralph Rinzler. On Ballads and Songs of Scotland, Kennedy sings Scottish folk songs unaccompanied. Sung primarily in Scots (a language descended from Middle English), the record also features songs in English and Scots-Gaelic. Some melodies will be recognizable to those familiar with music from other Celtic traditions.
