Poets Read Their Contemporary Poetry: Before Columbus Foundation
Various Artists

Founded in 1976, the Before Columbus Foundation was formed as a nonprofit educational and service organization dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary American multicultural literature. The Foundation employed the term “multicultural” not as a description of an aspect of American literature, but as a definition of all American literature. In this recording from the Oakland Museum, the Foundation presents a live reading by 14 poets lead by Foundation board member Ishmael Reed and noted writer and poet Amiri Baraka.
