You Can Sing It Yourself, Vol. 2

This recording is the second in a two-part series featuring educator/musician Robin Christensen singing familiar folk songs (“Bingo,” “This Old Man,” and “The Duke of York,” among others) with children at a summer camp. The recordings—part of a three-year exercise in music education conducted by Alan Buechner, an assistant professor at Harvard University—foster oral tradition by encouraging children to participate in the tradition of singing American folk songs, as earlier generations have done. The liner notes include harmonic outlines, melodic transcriptions, and lyrics for each song.
