Recorded in 1969, this free jazz album is led by William “Smiley” Winters (1929–1994), a San Francisco Bay area-based drummer. Originally issued as a two-record set, the recording presents Winters in different settings. The first three tracks are free-flowing sessions featuring avant-garde musicians Bert Wilson on reeds and Barbara Donald on trumpet. The remaining tracks showcase Winters’ musical versatility. Allmusic.com gave the recording a “highly recommended” and a 4½ star rating.
