Soraya, My Love: Songs from the Middle East

Established in 1956, Monitor Records was one of the first American recording companies to focus on “world music” including music associated with the folk and performance dance form of belly dance. In this recording, Soraya Melik, a popular belly dancer in New York City in the 60s and 70s, turns her talents to song. Singing love songs of Greek, Turkish and Arabic origin in her native Turkish, Soraya conveys the joy and heartache of love. This is her only known collection of songs.
