The Seven Last Words of Christ

The Boston Chorale
The Seven Last Words of Christ

This premiere recording of the Passion setting by Théodore Dubois (1837-1924) is also a technical feat: the recording technology used allows one to hear the tones from the 32-foot organ pipes, previously impossible to record. The performance of this sacred cantata features organist Reginald Foort, soprano Margo Stagliano, tenor Carl Nelson, baritone Mac Morgan and the Boston Chorale under the direction of Willis Page. Made in the 1950s, this recording remains superior by its musical treatment and recording technology.
