Virtuosi of the Accordion, Balalaika, Domra and Zhaleika (LP edition)
Various Artists

Virtuosi of the Accordion, Balalaika, Domra, and Zhaleika features suites, dances, and variations performed by the Piatnitsky and Andreyev Orchestras of Folk Instruments, among others.
The bayan, a push-button accordion, and the three–stringed balalaika are featured on both album sides. A lesser–known three–stringed instrument dating back to the 16th century, the domra, and the unique sound of the zhaleika, a Russian reed instrument, are also highlighted. This collection of nine ensemble pieces exemplifies the traditional sounds of Russian folk orchestral music. Brief historical descriptions and details on how these instruments are played are included in the liner notes.
