Heartbeat in the Music

The band Chatuye was formed of Garifuna musicians from Belize who were living in the Los Angeles area in the 1980s and ʼ90s. The music of the Garifuna people reflects their African–Caribbean Indian heritage, and the band strives to maintain the culture’s integrity. In this iteration of the band, nine members play a mix of drums and percussion, adding their vocals to create an album of unique Afro-Caribbean dance music. The liner notes provide information about the band and the music of the Garifuna.
