Sings the Blues (1992 Edition)

Long hailed as the “King of Zydeco,” Chenier also sang the blues. Recorded in 1969 and 1977 and originally released in 1987 as King-Of-Zydeco on the Home Cooking imprint, Sings the Blues features Clifton Chenier and his band at the peak of their powers. Jazz critic Ralph J. Gleason once noted that Chenier was “one of the most surprising musicians I have heard in some time, with a marvelously moving style of playing the accordion, blues accordion, that's right, blues accordion.”

This collection brings together two earlier albums - the first twelve tracks coming from the 1987 LP of the same name, and the last seven from this 1978 vinyl release - presenting a mix of original and cover songs that Chenier performs in his zydeco-blues style.
