This short story by Washington Irving is one of the earliest classics of American fiction. Read by stage and radio actor David Kurlan, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (1820) tells the tale of schoolmaster Ichabod Crane, who is chased through the Hudson River Valley by a headless horseman. The story has been rendered many times in theaters, on television and film (including an animated Disney version). The text of the story appears in the liner notes.
